expanse

Nothing.

Empty.

Void.

but there was You

so there was everything

and for the first time

the expanse heard Your voice

You said "Become"

and it became

light.

shape.

existence.

and it was good.

You are so good.

Then You knelt.

You formed man.

You formed me.

not with words

but with hands.

tender hands

unscarred

hands that had not yet felt nails

You placed Your nose on mine

and then spoke:

"Breathe"

and I breathed You in

Your breath my very essence

You are so good.

but I fell.

sinful.

separate.

shamed.

You acted.

You came.

Stretched Your arms

past sin

past shame

into the expanse

and those unscarred hands that formed me

were pierced

You spoke:

"It is finished."

so it was

redemption.

rescue.

You are so good.

You are our Ebenezer.

because of Your blood we can shout:

"This far our God has brought us!

This much our King has done!"

He has raised us to the heights

breathed new life into cancerous lungs

breath that will never die, will never fade

but will carry an eternal voice

preceding from our mouths

and resonating throughout the heavens

every space will hear it, every wall will echo

when with all voices one we proclaim

"Holy, Holy, Holy, are You our God

Worthy is the Lamb

Your right hand is full of righteousness

and Justice is Your name."

these things, these things, we ascribe to You

the Son:

goodness and mercy, beauty and splendor

strength and power, power and peace

the Lion and the Lamb

Thank You: You pray for me

with miraculous heavenly groans

Thank You: You came for me

and called me to be Your own

Thank You for the cross. Thank You for the cross.

You are so good.

This far our God has brought us,

This much our King has done

He has raised us to the heights,

and He breathed.
